Migrate to Mac

I’ve been frustrated by my PC for sometime and finally made the move to a Mac mini. My PC was suffering from very slow start up, services.exe would run and use more and more memory (I setup the task manager to monitor the virtual memory). Eventually I turned off the virtual memory so on start up services.exe would grow to 1Gbyte hit the memory limit, you then get a “low on virtual memory” message, services.exe goes to a few hundred kbytes and everything runs sort of ok until you open too many files and you run out of memory…

Migrating my files from the PC was straight forward. I copied the files across the network to the Mac. To setup Mozy you have to delete your computer from your Mozy account and then add the Mac, follow the steps shown below:

If you don’t need to restore any file from your PC, you will have to delete the machine completely from your account. The steps that will help you are:
1.Login to your account online from www.mozy.com/login
2.Towards the left pane please click on “my computer”
3.For the computer which you wish to delete, click on the option “delete” towards the right.
4.After the machine is deleted you will have to remove the unused computers.

Uploading the files can take a few days. I turned off power saving so that the backups continued at full speed. Mozy has a great feature to throttle the bandwith and limit the backup to certain times.
